Mumbai, India - The Color Positive Foundation, dedicated to fostering inclusion, acceptance, and opportunity within the fashion industry for the LGBTQIA+ community and allies, proudly announces the 6th Edition of the Color Positive Fashion Pageant 2024. This groundbreaking event will showcase adaptive fashion and celebrate diversity at the Veda Kunba Theater, Andheri West, Mumbai.
"We believe in a platform without boundaries of age, size, color, or creed," stated the founder. Highlighting contestants like the inspirational 57-year-old Binoxy Parakh, the pageant challenges stereotypes and encourages everyone to embrace their unique identities.
The Color Positive Fashion Pageant will unite community heroes and allies on stage, showcasing twenty contestants who have undergone twelve weeks of intensive grooming. The event culminates in the crowning of five winners across categories such as Mr. King, Mr. Queen, Ms. King, Ms. Queen, and Mx. Queen, celebrating diverse expressions of gender identity and beauty.
Savio Mascarenhas, founder of Color Positive, emphasized, "Our country is evolving, empowering the youth to embrace their true selves in the wake of progressive changes. This event honors those who paved the way for our freedoms today."
Renowned fashion director Sagar Kadrekar, known for his brand "Kadreshians", has curated the event's choreography and designed the sponsored Beach Wear segment. Esteemed judges including Sanket Sveronic, Priti Maniyar, Johann Arora, Pratik Jangade, Abhijit Thakur, and Geeta Tandon - The Indian Stunt Woman, will assess participants in a show that celebrates gender diversity and individuality.
We shall crown men under Mr. King and Mr. Queen. Yes, in the famous words by Madonna in her song, “For a boy to look like a girl is degrading, because you think that being a girl is degrading” she questions the society to accept people the way they are. And the Mr. Queen category celebrates the femininity in a man. We shall also crown women in Ms. Queen and Ms. King Categories and these girls defy our regular Indian women. And then we have Mx. Queen, F2M or trans-woman who will walk like equals and perfect the way they are.
Savio Mascarenhas says “Our country is changing, after #377gone we are in that time where the young are coming out and being the face of the old, empowering those who were affected by the law growing up and letting them know that its okay to be you. We are making new waves in letting the young generation know that you don’t have to follow the footsteps of the old and to finally live empowered because the old have fought for our “today”, to rejoice in the pride of being you.”
Sagar Kadrekar, our fashion director, has his own line of designer wear through his brand called “Kadreshians” and he has put together the choreography and has designed and sponsored the 2nd round of Beach Wear. He’s also the costume stylist for the show. Judges like queer celebrity from the corporate world, Sanket Sveronic, Priti Maniyar, Johann Arora, Pratik Jangada who is the reigning Mr. Gay World India, Abhijit Thakur, Geeta Tandon - India’s Stunt Woman and others will judge at the fashion show that celebrates all genders in one show.
This year, Color Positive is proud to collaborate with Rex Ideas for Action, Rex Karmaveer Global Fellowship, and Rex Karmaveer Chakra Awards, in association with ICONGO and @unitednations, thanks to founders Jeroninio Almeida and Eitu Vij Chopra.
Savio Mascarenhas acknowledged, "We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors including Reinsurance Group of America and Sound & Vision, without whom this show would not be possible."
Gift sponsors for the event include Filmybees Cine Club, Ekami Designs, Bloom & Bliss Cosmetics, Ilham Zayn Fragrances, Gay Bombay, Queer Ink, Mist LGBTQ Foundation, and Queer Bazaar. Transcafe, a transperson-run restaurant in Mumbai led by Zainab Patel, is the food partner for the event.
Collaborations with The Humsafar Trust, Yaariyan LGBTQ+, Play Makeover, Tatsat, Studio Sree, Mr. Gay World India, and beauty partner Lakme Academy, Malad, further enrich the event's impact.
